After Kelli Ali’s departure and under Chris Corner’s patronage, Sneaker Pimps adopted a completely different style of music production. The vocalist of the group experiments quite a lot with electro in the album Bloodsport. In modern times, this kind of electro is quite rare: one doesn’t come across this sort of sound very often, and even if one does, there is very little of it. It is no surprise that the album came out on «Tommy Boy», a label that used to actively endorse this genre. Personally, I’d like to point out two compositions from this release: the guitar track Black Sheep that symbolizes the loss of a particular person in a harsh, impartial society, and also, the title track Bloodsport which is ready to explode the listener’s head with its fat and intense electro part. Chris is practically inviting the audience into the worldly society.
Bloodsport is quite rich stylistically: its electronic component is accompanied by guitar elements. It is fun to notice that this release is already showing off the gothic tendencies of the artist.
Many critics have attacked this album for its «mediocrity», which is a big paradox for us personally. Bloodsport is worthy of a listen already because it is a complex, multi-layered creative piece with an alluring bittersweet taste.
